⚡ Giesen Electric Roaster: Eco-Friendly Roasting with Power and Accuracy

Meta Description:

The specialty coffee industry is taking notice of the Giesen electric roaster. Find out how this high-performing, environmentally friendly roasting machine stacks up against gas models and alternatives like Kafgar Roasters for artisanal and scalable roasting.

Introduction: Before I tried Giesen’s electric roaster, I didn’t think I’d like it.

Electric roasters seemed like toys to me before.

Too sluggish. Too feeble. Not authentic enough for roasting as a “craft.”

After that, I went to a friend’s store in Berlin. His electric roaster was a Giesen W6E. He dropped a batch of washed Ethiopian coffee, meticulously watched the roast curve, and then poured a cup that completely amazed me.

balanced acidity. lovely conclusion. Body clean.

I took my words to heart that day and began actually researching electric roasting.

Chapter 1: What is the Giesen Electric Roaster?

Part of Giesen’s W-series, the electric roaster replaces conventional gas burners with electric heating elements.

Important models consist of:

• W1E: 100g to 1.5kg

• W6E: Up to 6 kg per batch

• W15E: Suitable for small commercial roasters or serious cafés

These devices were created by Giesen for:

• Accurate control

• Minimal emissions

• Use indoors (without gas lines)

Indeed, they are stunning. Touchscreen panels, chrome accents, and matte black. People would still be impressed if you placed one in the living room.

Chapter 2: Why Switch to Electricity?

Before I encountered limitations, I believed that gas was king.

• In certain cities, installation is prohibited without permits.

• Needs adequate ventilation

• Environmental issues, particularly in Europe

• Expensive fuel and difficulty managing slight temperature fluctuations

These issues are resolved by electric roasters, particularly those made by Giesen:

A feature

Giesen Electric

Fuel

Just electricity

source of heat

responsive electric components

Setting up

Gas line not required, easier indoors

Emissions

Almost zero (with filters)

Command

Integration of PID and profiler

Ideal for mobile setups, labs, or environmentally conscious roasters.

Chapter 3: Giesen Electric’s First Roast

This is how it transpired.

I filled the W6E with 5 kg of Honduran natural.

The drum was charged at 170°C because it warms up more slowly than gas.

I followed my profile: first crack at 9:45, 5:30 Maillard, and 4:00 drying.

I observed:

• More stringent temperature regulation

• More steady airflow (as a result of internal sensors)

• Exceptionally uniform bean growth

What about the roast curve? Buttery smooth. No sudden spikes.

Chapter 4: Benefits and Drawbacks of Giesen Electric Roasters

Advantages

• A source of clean energy

• Quiet functioning

• No chimneys or gas lines are required.

• Ideal for urban cafés or labs

• Giesen has excellent profiling software.

• The same level of construction as their gas models

Cons

• A slower rate of heat accumulation, particularly in large quantities

• Could have trouble in cold or high-altitude environments.

• The cost of electricity varies by location.

• Still $$$

Chapter 5: What the Cup Tells You About Gas vs. Electric

Let’s discuss the outcomes.

I roasted the identical Kenya lot in blind cuppings on:

• Giesen W6A (gas)

• Giesen W6E (electric)

• 6 kg of Kafgar (gas)

Findings:

• W6A: Bright and punchy, but later stages are a little uneven.

• W6E: Calm, balanced, and immaculate

• Kafgar: Consistent crack timing, caramelized sweetness, and strong body

To be honest? Everything was fantastic.

However, the softer heat provided by the Giesen electric helped maintain clarity in light roasts.

Chapter 6: What Is the Difference with Kafgar Roasters?

This is where the interesting part begins.

A feature

Electric Giesen

Kafgar Hybrid/Gas

Cost Point

Premium (expensive $$$)

More reasonably priced (mid-tier)

Source of Heat

Completely electric

Options for gas or electricity

Create Quality

Superior quality

Additionally sturdy and heavy-duty

Personalization

High

High (sizes of custom drums, etc.)

Curve of Learning

Moderate

Beginner-friendly

Giesen offers you complete control and clean energy, but Kafgar Roasters are superior in terms of affordability, accessibility, and adaptability.

Kafgar provides better value for many small-to-mid roasters, particularly if you’re not yet ready for full electric.

Chapter 7: Who Needs to Think About a Giesen Electric?

It’s perfect for:

• Urban roasteries (where gas options are limited)

• Training facilities or labs

• Companies that care about the environment

• People who prefer roasting indoors in a clean, quiet environment

• Coffee aficionados seeking total authority

Additionally, electric produces more gentle heat curves than gas if you’re looking for ultra-consistent light roasts (think Gesha, anaerobic lots).

Chapter 8: Using Giesen Electric to Roast Workflow

This is an example of a routine I employ on the W6E:

1. It takes about 25 to 30 minutes to preheat to 170°C.

2. 5.5 kg of natural Ethiopian charge

3. Drying time: 0:00–4:00

4. Maillard: 4:00–9:00

5. 9:45 is the first crack.

6. Drop: 208°C at 11:00

Outcome?

body that is creamy. scent of flowers. Espresso with a crema bomb.

After setting the profile, I didn’t touch the dial at all because of the PID heating and integrated airflow control.

Chapter 9: Concluding Remarks — Is It Time to Make the Electric Switch?

Electric roasting isn’t a trick anymore. It’s real.

If you’re trying to find:

• Sustainable solutions

• Reliable, low-maintenance heating

• Adaptable installations

• Accurate roast profiles

…then the Giesen Electric Roaster is well worth the investment.

Don’t forget about gas, though. With traditional and hybrid designs, companies like Kafgar Roasters are doing fantastic work, giving roasters like me expert results without going over budget.

So, gas or electric? The option that best suits your vision, budget, and workflow is the best one.

And just keep roasting in any direction you choose.
